The Czech Year (Czech title: Špalíček), also called A Treasury of Fairy-Tales, is a 1947 stop-motion-animated feature film from Czechoslovakia. It was the first feature film directed by Jiří Trnka, and it proceeded to win several international awards and make his name famous in the animation world.

Jiří Trnka died of complications from a heart condition in 1969 when he was only 57 years old, in Prague. His funeral, held in Pilsen, was a large public event. Animation techniques. Throughout his career Trnka experimented with different animation techniques, from traditional cartoons in his first shorts to animation with shadow puppets.
